Turkey bombs a village in South Kurdistan

For the past year, the village of Hiror in southern Kurdistan has been bombed by the Turkish army. Last night, two shells hit houses, according to initial reports, causing heavy property damage.

Turkey bombed the village of Hiror in the Kanîmasî town again last night. According to the RojNews agency, two houses in the village were hit by shells, causing extensive damage to property. So far it is unclear whether the shells were fired from Turkish territory or from one of the Turkish army's countless military bases in southern Kurdistan.

The Turkish army is bombing populated areas in northern Iraq on a daily basis. Neither the Iraqi government nor the KRG (Kurdistan Region Government) object to this. Hiror is located in Metîna and is about ninety kilometers north of Duhok, the capital of the KDP-controlled governorate of the same name. The village is repeatedly targeted by Turkish attacks, especially in the summer months. In the course of Turkey's occupation offensive launched in April last year, several people from the village were injured by air and artillery attacks. In early September, Hiror was attacked with chemical weapons, injuring members of one family, according to the Christian Peacemaker Teams-Iraqi Kurdistan (CPT-IK) peace initiative. The Kurdish regional government in Hewlêr (Erbil) ignores the Erdoğan regime's occupation efforts.
