The Turkish Air Force has bombed the Berwarî Bala region in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). According to the Sulaymaniyah-based RojNews news agency, the attacks were carried out by several fighter jets on Sunday. It is unclear whether the attack resulted in casualties.
The wave of attacks was carried out in the afternoon and the target of the air strikes was the Bazêyan Valley. According to RojNews, there was "massive property damage" as a result of the attacks. In the valleys of Berwarî Bala there is a lot of cultivated land and garden land for the inhabitants of the region.
Berwarî Bala is located in the southern Kurdish part of the Hekarî Mountains, which is considered a historical Assyrian settlement area. Close by is the densely populated district of Kanî Masî, in the surrounding area of which the Turkish army operates several military bases.
In recent weeks and months, the Kurdish guerrillas have repeatedly carried out actions against the Turkish occupying forces in the area around Kanî Masî. The attacks were carried out in response to the invasion in the KRI, in which the Turkish army has also been using outlawed chemical weapons.
