Turkish army shells surroundings of villages in Lice

Turkish troops are shelling the surroundings of Sîsê and Dêrxus villages in Amed's Lice district where an extensive military operation has been started.

Şujin News Agency reported that thousands of soldiers and armored vehicles have been dispatched to the countryside of Amed province following Diyarbakır Governorate's declaration of a curfew in 59 villages and hamlets in the districts of Lice, Hazro, Kocaköy and Dicle late Sunday.

Local sources report intense military activity in the region, describing the military operation as a most extensive one conducted recently.

Turkish army intensifies military build-up in Lice district center, from where troops are conducting artillery attacks on the area between Sîsê and Dêrxus villages.While villagers cannot go out of their homes due to the attacks, soldiers have blocked the roads leading to the villages.

According to reports from the region, the operation is joined by troops from 7th Corps Command, Amed and Bingöl Provincial Gendarme Commands and district commando battalions.

Over 20 drones are mobilized for the operation which is joined by 7 thousand soldiers, around 800 special operations police and 12 guard teams from the districts of Bingöl and Amed. The army has put up military tents in the rural area between Licok and Zengok villages of Lice.

All the cars travelling in the region are being stopped at checkpoints and subjected to a strict search. Mobile checkpoint has been set up between Lice's Sise-Kervas villages and Hazro's Helhel village.
