As the 8 month-long curfew in Şırnak continues, Turkish soldiers continue their attacks on civilians that refuse to leave their land. The people that are living in shelters in the villages far from Şırnak city center due to the curfew are being forced to migrate by Turkish soldiers. Pregnant woman Belkıs Katar had been injured when Turkish soldiers and village guards shot at makeshift shelters near the villages of Toptepe and İkizce. Civilians had taken Katar to the hospital.
MOTHER KATAR: OUR TENTS WERE BURNT AND THEY SHOT AT US
Emine Katar, mother of Belkıs Katar, stated that they have been waiting for the curfew to be lifted for the past 8 months, and soldiers first attacked their tents and later the shelters they were staying at. Katar said "The state has been keeping us away from our land and houses for the past 8 months. First, we set up tents because we did not want to go to other cities but the state burnt and demolished our tents. Now, my daughter and I live in a makeshift shelter we had made but this time, they shot at us."
'WE WILL NEVER LEAVE!'
Katar said that soldiers and village guards randomly shoot around them every evening, and civilians are scared to go out of their shelters. Katar said that her daughter was cooking when soldiers shot at her, and the bullet hit her ribs. Katar noted that her daughter was pregnant and they waited for an ambulance that never came, and soldiers prevented them from reaching the hospital. Mother Katar said that when officials came to their shelter and asked from where the bullet came, they refused to believe that village guards and soldiers had shot at her daughter.
Lastly, mother Emine Katar said that they would never leave their land despite the attacks.
