Turkish soldiers start forest fires in Hakkari countryside

The forest fires in Hakkari triggered by Turkish artillery are continuing. Those responsible do nothing to extinguish the fires and hinder intervention attempts of the population "for security reasons".

Artillery fire from the Turkish Meskan military base started a fire in the countryside of Kavaklı (Marunıs) village of Hakkari. Hundreds of hectares of forest has been burning for three days now.

While those responsible do nothing to extinguish the fires, intervention attempts by the population are impeded "for security reasons". A large forest area and the many different plants and animal species living in it have already fallen victim to the flames.

Despite the efforts of the local population, the fire continues to spread. The residents of Kavaklı village demand immediate action to extinguish the fires.
