More than 20 civilians were killed as a result of Turkish bombing in the territory of Southern Kurdistan since July 2017. 10 of them were killed last week in strikes of Turkish warplanes in the countryside of Duhoq’s Amadiya district.
Speaking to Roj News Agency, head of PUK’s Sheladize office Ferec Rekani said that there was no military presence of PKK or other organizations in the areas targeted by Turkey.
“For some time now Turkish army is targeting our civilian citizens, and killed some civilians recently. The areas shelled by Turkish jets are not military zones, they are inhabited by civilian population” Rekani said.
According to Rekani, PUK officials warned Turkish officials against the attacks on civilians and demanded an end to the bombing of the region. Turkey still continued to attack rural Sheladize.
Rekani called for support for the population affected by the bombings and said that demonstrations and protests should be held against Turkish attacks.
PUK official also called upon the United Nations to launch an investigation and the Federal Kurdish Government to break its silence and protest Turkish state.
Turkey continuously targets Kurdish guerrillas and the Kurdish population living in Medya Defence Zones controlled by the PKK.
Southern Kurdistan human rights organizations accuse Turkey of trying to depopulate the region by randomly targeting civilians.
Turkey pursues a policy of denial with regard to the attacks that cause civilian casualties in Southern Kurdistan. Ankara never accepted its role in such bombings.
