The district of Şarbajêr in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) has once again been targeted by a Turkish drone. The RojNews agency reported that the village of Sînkê (Shinki) was attacked by an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) at around 11:00 a.m. local time on Monday. It is not yet clear whether the attack  resulted in casualties or not.

In recent weeks and months, devastating wildfires have broken out in Şarbajêr as a result of Turkish bombardments. Hundreds of hectares of farmland and agricultural land were turned to ash.

The villages in the ttown of Mawet, which lies in the north-west of Şarbajêr, are particularly affected by the Turkish bombing. Sînkê also belongs to Mawet. The town is located at the foothills of the Asos Mountains in the north of the Sulaymaniyah governorate and is a good 200 kilometres from Turkish territory. Nevertheless, the Turkish army repeatedly attacks the area with warplanes or drones under the guise of self-defence.

The last known airstrikes by Turkey on Şarbajêr took place at the end of last week. According to the General Command of the Eastern Kurdistan Defence Forces (YRK), the bombings caused damage to agricultural, cultivated and agricultural land. According to the PJAK, Turkish aircraft carried out two waves of attacks on suspected targets of their units, but hit agricultural land used by the civilian population in the villages of the Assos massif.

On Friday, a Turkish drone struck Kurdish media employees during a reporting trip through the district of Seyîdsadiq, east of Sulaymaniyah. Two journalists, Gülistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn, were killed in the attack and six colleagues were injured.
