Up to 15 years prison sentence sought for HDP MP Uca

An indictment has been prepared against HDP Amed MP Feleknas Uca within the framework of a suit commenced against her with a demand for her arrest.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Amed MP Feleknas Uca had already been put on trial on charges of “organisation propaganda” due to her remarks.

Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor last month combined separate case files against Uca into one, accusing her of “membership to an armed terror organization”. The indictment of the case file has also been prepared.

The indictment described Feleknas Uca's speeches and press statements at different dates as “criminal evidence” and argued that Uca had “joined 6 demonstrations that turned into terror organisation propaganda”. These include Uca's remarks on women fighting ISIS during the “Women Meet For Life” event in Amed's central Bağlar district in May of 2015.

Uca's remarks "Kurdish women killed themselves to protect their honour and to not surrender to rapers in Shengal, Kobanê and the Middle East. For this reason, YPJ, YPG and HPG are the symbols of freedom" were defined in the indictment as "organization propaganda".

The indictment also said: "In consideration of the suspect's position, the addressed audience and the manner of perception, the remarks cannot be considered within the scope of freedom of thought and expression".

7,5 to 15 years prison sentence is sought for HDP MP Feleknas Uca, a former member of the European Parliament.
