Victims of genocide remembered in Shengal

Life came to a standstill and a moment of silence was observed for the victims of the 2014 genocide in Shengal.

Under the leadership of the Shengal People's Assembly, life was brought to a stand still at 10:00 in the morning and a minute of silence was held to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for Shengal. The minute of silence was held in front of houses in public and central places, including in the centre of Shengal, Qiblete, Xanesor, Serdeşt, Solaẍe Monument, Sinûne, Borik, Digûre and all villages and towns. In many parts of Shengal, dessert was distributed in memory of the martyrs and water was distributed on the main streets.

The people of Shengal demand accountability from those responsible for the genocide and the prosecution of the KDP, the ruling party in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, whose forces fled the Yazidi town when the ISIS onslaught began.

In the afternoon, a commemoration event will be organised in Shengal. People will march from the Shengal People's Assembly to the Zarîfa Osê School in the city centre. The ceremony will be held in this school, which is hell for Yazidis.
