The brave resistance against the genocidal attacks on Şırnak continues. State forces that cannot end the resistance destroy the city upon Erdoğan’s orders. Images of the destruction documents the state’s war crimes.
Şırnak city center has been the site of state forces’ genocidal attacks and the brave resistance of YPS/YPS-JIN forces since March 14. Unable to end this resistance, state forces started to destroy the city with heavy weaponry and explosives. The city’s historical sites and faith centers are the primary targets of this attack.
NON-STOP BOMBARDMENT UPON ERDOĞAN'S ORDER
The order President Tayyip Erdoğan gave during a meeting with mukhtars on April 6 when he suggested that ‘buildings could be destroyed from a distance’ is now being implemented.
The neighborhoods of the self-rule resistance are being shelled and bombarded non-stop. The majority of Dicle, Cumhuriyet, İsmetpaşa, Gazipaşa, Yeşilyurt, Yeni and Bahçelievler neighborhoods have been destroyed so far.
Hundreds of houses in Aydınlıkevler, Tekser, Vakıfkent, Gündoğlu and Şehr-i Nuh (Ömerköy) neighborhoods, where there is no resistance, have also been destroyed. Tall buildings in these neighborhoods are being used as sniper bases, and civilians are being forced to leave their houses and city.
IMAGES REFUTE THE STATE MEDIA’S CLAIMS
State media bends the truth and portrays the resistance as the side that is responsible for the destruction when claims that explosive traps set up by YPS members destroy the houses. Despite this campaign, the truth reveals itself and images from different parts of the city point at state forces. The destruction of state forces that target historical and religious sites and commit war crimes is documented already.
