A young Yazidi boy, Rojîn Hedad, who was kidnapped by ISIS mercenaries during the genocide carried out on 3 August 2014, was rescued by security forces in Northern and Eastern Syria after 9 years. The boy arrived in Shengal on Friday. Hedad was welcomed with great enthusiasm.
Rojîn Hedad is now 17 years old. He was captured on 3 August 2014 and was liberated 9 years after being kidnapped. He was freed near Idlib by the security forces of the Cizîrê Canton of the Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria on 26 November. Hedad was brought back to Shengal on Friday. The young man was welcomed with great enthusiasm by the Shengal Autonomous Administration and her family.
Thousands of Yazidis were kidnapped during the genocide carried out by ISIS mercenaries in Shengal in 2014. Although hundreds of captive Yazidis were rescued after the YPG and YPJ forces from Rojava and Northern and Eastern Syria liberated Shengal, together with the HPG and YJA Star guerrillas and YBŞ and YJŞ forces, there are still hundreds of Yazidis whose fate remains unknown.
