The Press Center of Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) released a statement in the wake of the Turkish drone attack that targeted the Til Ezer sub-district of Shengal (Sinjar) earlier today. YBŞ stated that neither the civilian population nor fighters were harmed by the attack.
The YBŞ statement said, “As is known to all, the Turkish state-affiliated ISIS gangs attacked Shengal in 2014. Our people in Til Ezer were among those who resisted these attacks. Dozens of them were martyred and injured during the course of the resistance. Yet, they never gave up resisting. For this very reason, the Turkish state seeks to destroy the gains of our people by means of attacks in order to crush the spirit of resistance. At a time when our displaced people are forced to live in tents, aspiring to return home, attacks by the Turkish state and its collaborator, the KDP, expose their purpose.
Our people, who have repeatedly faced genocides but never abandoned their land, are targeted by attacks of this kind. With these attacks, the enemy imposes both a war and physical genocide on our people. Having protected themselves against mass slaughter and not allowed ISIS gangs to rule over Shengal, our Yazidi people are now fighting a struggle against the occupying Turkish state and its collaborator, the KDP.
On this occasion, we appeal to our people once again to react to the attacks of the enemy. Do not allow occupiers to dominate these sacred lands. Our Yazidi people should stand up against these attacks and confront these vicious policies.”
