YJA Star Commander: Guerrilla resistance leads to a syndrome among Turkish soldiers

"The guerrilla resistance has led to a syndrome among the Turkish soldiers. They have not managed to enter our tunnels for days, although they use chemical gas everywhere," said YJA Star Commander Batufa Çekdar.

Batufa Çekdar, one of the commanders of the YJA-Star (Free Women's Troops), spoke in a special session on Stêrk TV about the resistance against the Turkish state's invasion of South Kurdistan launched on April 23. The commander related the guerrilla offensives in the Medya Defense Zones to the Kurdish movement’s "Time for Freedom" campaign to achieve the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. “The isolation of Öcalan on the Turkish prison island of Imrali is intended to prevent the spread of his ideas for a democratic model of society. A single word from the Kurdish leader could change the political situation and offer a new perspective to all freedom-loving people, Batufa Çekdar said and pointed out the following:

"The Turkish state wanted to destroy us in North Kurdistan, and the PKK is increasingly entrenched within the population in all four parts of Kurdistan. The PKK has spread the project of Democratic Modernity throughout the Middle East. The attacks on Rojava were meant to put an end to this philosophy, but it has become known around the world as a result."

Attempt to distract from economic crisis with military operations

The Turkish state's policy has consisted of massacres and methods of occupation and colonization since the Ottoman Empire, Çekdar said, "Especially the current AKP/MHP government keeps itself in power through its policy of bloodshed. It wants to distract from domestic problems and the economic crisis with constantly new occupation operations."

When asked about the goal of the Turkish invasion in the Avashin, Metina and Zap regions, the commander replied, "We can evaluate these operations as part of the genocide of the Kurdish people. Numerous operations have taken place not only in these regions, but also in North Kurdistan. In winter, the Turkish state wanted to occupy Gare, but it has experienced a historical rupture. Now the fascist government thought that it can just come to Avashin, Metina and Zap and occupy these areas and make politics over this. The guerrillas have positioned themselves in underground positions in the Medya Defense Zones. The areas of the current operation are of great strategic importance to us. The goal is to cut the connection between the guerrilla areas. The entire area from Qandil to Xakurke, from Shengal to Mosul and Rojava is wanted to be occupied. The military is encountering resistance from the guerrilla."

No ability to act without NATO support

Another question in the broadcast was about the roles of other states in Turkey's expansionism. Çekdar said the following about international connections, "The Turkish state maintains relations with many countries in order to win the war against the PKK. We have been in a war with the international powers for forty years. NATO is behind all of Turkey's occupation operations. It is also supporting Turkey in the current operation. On its own, the Turkish state could not carry out a single operation against our movement, even in economic terms."

Operation troops consist of mercenaries and Islamists

Batufa Çekdar described the state of the Turkish army in the current invasion as devastating. She continued: "Turkey has been dealt the second major blow after the Gare operation. Only paid soldiers or Islamists are used in the current operations, and the state does not care if they die. There have been over a hundred guerrilla actions against the operation units. There are over 150 dead soldiers, and these are only those whose deaths were detectable with the naked eye. The initiative in the fight so far has been with the guerrilla. Extreme weapons technology is being used. The guerrilla resistance has led to a syndrome among the soldiers. They have not managed to penetrate our tunnels for days, and this despite the fact that constant chemical gas is being used. The guerrillas are Rêber Apo's sacrificial fighters who respond to the enemy forces every day with great determination and a professional awareness. They have put up an honorable resistance so far. The fighters of YJA-Star participate in the HPG actions and carry out their own actions, they are a leading force in this war. So far, six of our brave female companions have died. Their deaths heighten the spirit of sacrifice that is palpable in our offensive."

War from Zagros to Dersim

Regarding the situation in North Kurdistan, YJA Star commander Batufa Çekdar said: "As it looks, the enemy will continue its operations in North Kurdistan as well. It claims every year that it has now finally defeated the PKK, but at the end of the year the same result is always visible. Dozens of guerrilla actions take place in the north every year. We are at war from Zagros to Dersim, from Botan to Serhad. The guerrillas are aware of their historic responsibility. The aim of our offensives is not only to protect the respective areas; we want to defeat the army and the Turkish genocidal policy. Our people must stand by the side of the guerrilla in this important phase of resistance. Especially the people of South Kurdistan should stand behind this struggle and revolt in order to fulfill their national responsibility. As for the youth, they should give support not only through social activities, but through direct participation."
