YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) guerrilla Gülistan Ekinci was martyred in the Turkish army's air raids on Mount Bagok between 11 and 15 December 2021. Bagok is located in the district of Nusaybin in the Kurdish province of Mardin. The remains of the YJA Star fighter were held by the authorities for seven months.
Only on Wednesday was the body handed over to her family. Ekinci was taken to Siirt in the evening and buried there. The cemetery was cordoned off by Turkish security forces. To prevent expressions of solidarity and to isolate the family, only the closest relatives were allowed into the cemetery.
