Dîrok Cûdî, a guerrilla fighter in the ranks of Free Women’s Troops (YJA Star), spoke to ANF on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the death of ARGK guerrilla fighter Beritan (Gülnaz Karataş). Bêrîtan Hêvî was a guerrilla commander and pioneer of the Women's Army who threw herself into an abyss in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) on 25 October 1992 to avoid falling into the hands of the KDP, which collaborated with Turkey. Because of her exceptional courage and her passionate character, Beritan became a historical figure for the Kurds. Songs were written and innumerable newborns were named after her. Her life was portrayed in the movie “Beritan” by Kurdish director Halil Dag in 2006.
Paying tribute to all the martyrs of Kurdistan in the person of Bêrîtan, Dîrok Cûdî stated: “She fell at a time which was marked by scores of cases of betrayal. In the spirit of comrade Bêrîtan, our comrades in Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna are putting up historic resistance against betrayal today. The Turkish state and the KDP are waging a cowardly war against us. The enemy has been attacking the Medya Defense Zones ceaselessly over the past years. They are using all kinds of banned ordnance and chemical weapons against the guerrilla, but they still can’t achieve their goals because our comrades are resisting to the bitter end in the spirit of resistance of comrade Bêrîtan’s.”
The YJA Star guerrilla continued: “If we want to achieve the goals of comrade Bêrîtan, we must base on her stand against betrayal. Her action encourages us all. Her action laid the foundations of a women’s army. The course and developments of this mighty war are constantly shared with public opinion. The guerrillas make no concessions to the enemy despite all the challenges. Just like comrade Bêrîtan did, we will also defend our lands to our last breath, no matter the cost. We will achieve victory in the same way the action of comrade Bêrîtan achieved success.”
