In the statement the YPS / YPS-JIN Coordination said: "Our struggle for freedom, led by our Freedom Movement and our Leader [Abdullah Öcalan], has reached a new stage with the process of urban resistance in North Kurdistan and carried out historical urban resistance. Just as there is a Paris Commune in history, dating back to 1848, there is now a resistance in Sur, Cizre and Nusaybin. This resistance is the successor of the great resistance and fighters who wrote the epic of Kobanê in 2014.”

The statement added: "During the process of war in North Kurdistan, around 60-70 fighters in each city defended their cities for months against the enemy's tanks, artillery, heavy weapons and thousands of soldiers and police. The biggest weapons in the hands of the insurgents were the thoughts and beliefs developed by Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan].

The statement reminded that this year marks the “6th anniversary of the Sur resistance, which began on 2 December 2015, the longest city resistance in history. In this great resistance that lasted for 105 days, our comrades resisted in neighborhoods, streets, houses, and they hit the enemy very hard. The Turkish army announced in its own statement that 4 battalions of soldiers were killed in Sur. Desperate in the face of this historical resistance, the fascist Turkish army and the state were able to enter the city of Sur, which they could not enter militarily, with tanks only because of their technical power. Despite all this, resistance and the will of freedom won in Sur. As Comrade Martyr Çiyager said, a magnificent tradition of resistance was shown.”

The statement remarked: “Leading commanders of the historical Sur resistance, Martyr Çiyager, Martyr Nucan, Martyr Delil, Martyr Berfin, Martyr Mazlum, are remember with respect and gratitude as are all our martyrs of the autonomous-government resistance. As YPS fighters, we repeat the promise that we will be worthy of our comrades by taking the revenge of our comrades by targeting the enemy everywhere in the mountains, cities and plains until they realize the dreams of our martyred comrades."
