YRK fighter Egîd Çemezî from Eastern Kurdistan, who had been missing for some time, turned out to have drowned while crossing a river in the Ava Zê.
The General Command of the Eastern Kurdistan Defence Forces (YRK) announced the death of guerrilla Egîd Çemezî.
According to the statement on Tuesday, Egîd Çemezî drowned on 18 September 2022 while crossing a river in the Ava Zê (Little Zap) not far from the Asos Mountains in the border region between South and East Kurdistan.
YRK expressed its condolences to the family of the fallen guerrilla fighter and the Kurdish public.
YRK stated that Egîd Çemezî, whose real name was Rahim Khulami, was a native of Ilam in Eastern Kurdistan (Western Iran). He belonged to the Melikşahî tribe, which is based in the border region between South and East Kurdistan. He joined the YRK on New Year's Day 2019. "His decision was based on the desire for a free life. Egîd Çemezî, like every child of Kurdistan, longed for a life of freedom and, deeply impressed by the fascinating resistance in Rojava, had set out on a search. He found what he was looking for in our ranks."
YRK described Egîd Çemezî as a selfless person who made the traditional culture of the Îlam region grow with the philosophy and paradigm of Abdullah Öcalan. "Comrade Egîd was a true companion of the Kurdish people’s leader Abdulllah Öcalan. We will always be worthy of him and his memory. We reaffirm our pledge for a free country and a free chairman, and promise that we will continue our struggle in the path of these heroes until the end," said the YRK.
