2 more released in the Hrant Dink murder case

Istanbul Gendarmerie Intelligence Bureau Officer Muharrem Demirkale and FOX TV News Director Ercan Gun were released in today’s hearing in the case of Hrant Dink’s murder.

The hearing for the case of Agos Editor in Chief Hrant Dink’s murder where police, intelligence and gendarmerie officials with responsibility in the murder are on trial continued on day 3. The hearing was held in the Istanbul High Penal Court No.14 in Caglayan and suspects on remand Ramazan Akyurek, Ercan Gun, Muharrem Demirkale and Yavuz Karakaya attended through the video conferencing system SEGBIS from the prisons they are held in. Ali Oz on house arrest and Murat Bayrak, Adem Sarigol and Resat Altay were present in the court room.

THE VERDICT

The court declared an interim verdict after the demands submitted yesterday, ruling for the release of then-Istanbul Gendarmerie Intelligence TIM Commander Muharrem Demirkale and Fox TV News Director Ercan Gul. Demirkale and Gun, who are on remand for other cases as well with allegations of membership to a terrorist organization, were also issued foreign travel bans in case they are released in their other cases. The court issued foreign travel bans for Sergeant Yavuz Karakaya and former Brigadier General Hamza Celepoglu who had been released in a previous hearing. The court ruled for the continuation of arrest for Ramazan Akyurek and Ali Fuat Yilmazer and house arrest for Ali Oz.

MUAMMER GULER TO TESTIFY

The court accepted Dink family lawyer Hakan Bakircioglu’s request, and will be hearing witness testimony from the then-MIT Istanbul Regional Director Huseyin Kubilay Gunay, then-MIT Istanbul Regional Director’s Officers Ozel Yilmaz and Handan Selcuk, then-Governor of Istanbul Muammer Guler and then-Deputy Governors Ergun Gungor, Adem Saglam, Emre Altuntas, Recep Kocpinar, Muhammet Bulgur, Adem Polat, Mustafa Kuleta and Muhammet Kirmaci.

ONLY 2 LEFT ON REMAND

The hearing was postponed to June 11-12-13.

There are only 2 suspects left on remand in the case against the public officials involved in the Hrant Dink murder.
