22 arrested after the attack in Ahvaz

In connection with the attack on a military parade in Ahvaz in southwestern Iran, the Iranian intelligence service has reportedly arrested 22 people. The attack last Saturday killed 25 people.

Several people were arrested in connection with the attack on a military parade in the southwestern Iranian province of Ahvaz on Saturday. Mahmoud Alavi, Minister of Communications, told the Tasnim News Agency that there are a total of 22 suspects. During the raids Iranian forces also confiscated weapons, communications equipment and documents.

The attack killed 25 people on Saturday. According to the state news agency IRNA, twelve of the dead are Revolutionary Guardsmen. Civilians, including children, are said to have been killed in the attack. More than 60 other people were injured, according to authorities, many of whom are still in mortal danger.

At yesterday's memorial service for the victims, the Revolutionary Guards threatened with "devastating retribution". Previously, the Iranian leadership had indirectly held the US indirectly responsible for the attack. Hossein Salami, vice-president of the Pasdaran, Revolutionary Guards, swore revenge: "Our response will be devastating," he said in a live televised speech to thousands of mourners in Ahvaz.

After the Sunni separatist movement "Al-Ahwasieh", the so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack on the military parade. The IS-mouthpiece Amaq distributed on Monday a video that shows three assassins on the way to the attack.
