3 candidates to run for prime minister in Iraq

Turki Cedan Etebi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, spoke about the discussions on the formation of a new government in Iraq and said that three candidates will compete to become the next prime minister of the country.

Although more than 9 months have passed since the early elections in Iraq, the political parties have not hammered out an agreement to form a new government.

Etebi from the State of Law Coalition told Iraqi media that since the coalition is the largest group in the parliament, The Coordination Framework is working with all political forces to nominate a candidate for the prime minister’s office. Etebi revealed that Nuri Maliki, Haydar Abadi and Mihemed Shia El Sudani would run to become the new prime minister.

Etebi stated that Iran accepted the candidacy of Mihemed Shia Al Sudani as the new prime minister of Iraq. “If Al Sudani becomes prime minister, the government will be run by the Dawa Party for the third time,” he noted.

'POLITICAL CONFLICTS SHOULD BE ENDED'

“The Coordination Framework is negotiating with all political parties to form the new government of Iraq and to end the existing political conflicts as soon as possible. 70 percent of the problem with forming a government has been resolved by political parties. The end of July will be a very important time for the announcement of some agreements between the alliance and the political parties,” Etebi added.
