People from Kobanê who had to flee from the massacre threats of ISIS have started to return to the liberated city. While the returnees make long queues at the border crossing, 40 thousand people have already returned to Kobanê from Suruç.
Kobanê people who have been away from their lands for over 6 months are returning in groups to the liberated city despite all the cautious statements and warnings that the situation there is not yet suitable to sustain the returnees. Around 200 thousand people fled from Kobanê to Suruç after the attacks on Kobanê began in September and were sheltered in the tent cities and camps set up and run by the DBP municipalities.
It has been reported that half of the 20 thousand people who were staying in the Arin Mirxan, Rojava, Suphi Nejat Ağırnaslı, Kobanê, Kader Ortakaya and Şehit Gelhad tent cities in Suruç have returned to Kobanê. A total of 40 thousand people have returned so far since the liberation of the town on 26 January by the YPG/YPJ forces. The returns take place on the days the Mursitpinar border gate is open; on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. While there are long queues on these days beginning from Miseynter village to the border gate for the registration of the returnees, people say that they prefer to return despite all the hardship of the conditions in the city.
Returnees are observed to be happy and enthusiastic while crossing to Kobanê, while the youth say that they will never leave their city again and will defend it at any cost.
