462 people arrested in Hakkari in 2011

462 have been detained and 114 jailed in Yüksekova town of Hakkari in 2011 and over 30 have been detained in the first month of 2012 as two district chairs of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) have been jailed in one month in Þemdinli Town.

According to the list of jailed people in Hakkari, almost all chairs, including former ones, of pro-Kurdish party branch organizations have been in prisons: Esendere Mayor Hurþit Altekin, former Yüksekova Mayor Ruken Yetiþkin, Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Leader Abdullah Öcalan's lawyer Davut Uzunköprü, five City Council members, four Women's Council members, closed Democratic Society Party (DTP) Branch Chairs Þahabettin Tamur, Arif Karay, Muhyettin Ünal, former Yüksekova BDP Branch Chairs Nazif Ataman, Vahit Þahinoðlu and Hüsnü Bulgan. Also among the jailed are the former Þemdinli BDP Branch Chair Þuayip Sevik and his replacement Nusret Akbaþ, who were able to work only for one month and one week respectively. The accusations are still undisclosed due to the decision for privacy of investigations whereas the majority of the arrests have been based on testimonies by secret witnesses and telephone records.

Hakkari is a city which was paid attention because of the lowest rate of boycott in the latest referendum, the highest rate of vote for BDP and many demonstrations against right violations and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
