The Commission for the Research of Unidentified Murders and Enforced Disappearances which was established within the body of Batman Bar Association has published their 2011 work report into a book. In a statement about the 2011 report of the Commission, Batman Bar Association Chair Yusuf Tanrýseven pointed out that unidentified murders and disappearances weren’t investigated properly although 90’s still remain as a dark period in Turkey’s history. Tanrýseven, basing on the figures they obtained through their researches, stated that 513 people had been a victim to unidentified murders and 17 people had disappeared in Batman alone in these years.

Stating that the aim was of the Commission was to create an expansive database, Bar Association Chair Tanrýseven said that the book was prepared on the basis of the data obtained from the archives of Human Rights Association (IHD). Tanrýseven added that; “All we want is to find those responsible for the murders. We were unable to do something for the victims but we can at least do something to find the murderers.”
