The Democratic Society Congress (DTK) held a public meeting in Idil, province of Şırnak within the scope of the campaign "Let's establish the union, break the isolation, ensure freedom". DTK co-chairs Leyla Güven and Berdan Öztürk, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MPs Nuran Imir and Hüseyin Kaçmaz and many people attended the meeting.
"Invaders don't want Kurds to have a voice"
Speaking at the meeting, DTK co-chair Berdan Öztürk pointed out that ‘"whenever a Kurd says ‘I want education in my mother tongue’ or ‘I want my identity, which is my right’, her/his place is either in prison or she/he is killed. With these attacks, they want to eliminate the demands of the Kurds. They want the Kurds to keep silent against these attacks. But the Kurds never kept silent, and resisted."
Öztürk said that the attacks against the Kurds "impose a dishonorable life". Öztürk maintained that the choice of the Kurds has been a life of honor and death. ‘"We want our identity, language and history’", Öztürk added.
"Attacks achieved no results"
Öztürk remarked that ‘"they say, ‘We will solve the Kurdish problem with weapons’. Whoever has attempted to solve the Kurdish problem with weapons has been removed from the polical scene. We know this from Tansu Çiller, Süleyman Demirel. Bahçeli and Erdoğan are experiencing the same situation today. They also know that the Kurdish problem cannot be solved with weapons."
"The alternative for a solution is Mr Öcalan"
Pointing out that the need for dialogue and negotiation for the solution of the Kurdish problem, Öztürk said: "’Mr. Öcalan has been saying this since the 90's: ‘You cannot solve the Kurdish problem with weapons, the solution depends on dialogue and negotiation’. We saw this in 2013-2015. America, Europe, and the Middle East see this. The alternative for the emancipation of the Middle East is not the current system, it is the ideas of Mr. Öcalan. That is why they are attacking and blocking the solutions”.
After the meeting, DTK delegation visited tradesmen and families in the district.
