A university hospital in Mosul freed from ISIS

Iraqi forces continue their advance in Mosul and have cleansed a hospital and its surroundings of ISIS gangs near the area of 'Old Mosul'.

Iraqi forces continue the operation launched on October 17, 2016 to cleanse Mosul of ISIS gangs and liberated a big part of the city by now. But fierce clashes still continue in the part which is called 'Old Mosul'.

The forces affiliated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs managed to seize the Îbn Sîna university hospital and many sites which are linked to it. Federal police-affiliated commander Raid Şakir Cewdet announced that the whole neighbourhood al-Shifa, where the hospital is located, has been cleansed of ISIS gangs.

As the operation in 'Old Mosul' continues for weeks, security forces had launched an offensive on al-Shifa neighborhood on June 18. The symbolic Great Mosque of al-Nuri where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had declared his caliphate, was taken under control on June 29.

A spokesperson for the global coalition to counter ISIS had stated afterwards that with the seizure of the mosque, the fall of Mosul was only a matter of time.
