It has been found out that the child sexual and physical abuse in Pozantý M Type Closed Prison were within the knowledge of authorities including the Parliament's Human Rights Watch Commission and the Adana Public Prosecutor's Office. Human Rights Association (ÝHD) Mersin Chair Ali Tanrýverdi said that they had long contacted all related authorities about the jailed children's complaints.
"The children who were released from the prison in July 2011 have very serious claims. We filed criminal complaints at the Adana Public Prosecutor's Office and contacted the Parliament's Human Rights Watch Commission, the Ministery of Justice Prisons Office and the Governorship of Adana Human Rights Council. The authorities know about the incidents," said Tanrýverdi to DIHA News Agency.
H.G., one of the children who applied to the ÝHD tells, "I was constantly beaten and insulted under custody. Upon arrival at the prison in Mersin, I was beaten again and forced to unzip my trousers. I was beaten and kept under constant pressure by ordinary prisoners in the Pozantý Prison."
Y.S. and A.Ç. also tell they suffer from psychological problems due to the harassment and inhuman treatment they were subjected to in the prison. M.D. says sexual abuse is very common in the prison as E.K. emphasizes that the prison administration knows about the inhuman treatment.
However, the Association of Freedom for Earth (YÖD) declared in a petition to the Ministry of Justice and other related authorities today that the state was responsible of the child sexual abuse in the Pozantý Prison.
