Activists from Lyon take over Freedom for Öcalan Vigil

Activists from Lyon condemned the silence of Europe against isolation against Kurdish people's leader, Abdullah Öcalan, while taking over the vigil for Freedom for the Kurdish leader.

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil, held in front of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, has reached week 398.

Activists Baz Qewm, Hogir Çevlik, Hebun Amed and Erhan Aktay, from Lyon, took over the Vigil this week, taking it over from another French group, from Marseille.

The action is held in the area where the Council of Europe, the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the European Parliament, which are responsible for monitoring violations in prisons.

This action requires patience

Reminding that the action is approaching the 400th week, the Lyon group activists said: "This action requires patience, 400 days are not enough, 400 days are not enough."

Talking about the AKP-MHP coalition, the activists said: "This government is fooling everyone. It is this government that has prevented aid from reaching the victims of the Elazığ earthquake."

Activists also condemned the silence of the CPT and European institutions about the isolation imposed on the Kurdish leader.

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil began in front of the Council of Europe on 25 June 2012. Since then it has been taken over by a different group of activists every week.
