Activists in Lucerne demand freedom for Öcalan

An action was held in Lucerne to demand an end to the absolute isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and to ensure his freedom.

Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger (TCŞ) and Jinên Ciwan ên Têkoşer (TekoJIN) promoted a rally attended by Kurdish people in Lucerne, as part of the "Cenga Azadiyê Serbixin" initiative.

The action held at Bahnhofplatz started after a minute's silence in memory of the martyrs of the Kurdistan Freedom struggle. Lucerne Democratic Kurdish Community Center (CDK) co-chair Nurşen Demir said: “We have gathered to protest the severe isolation imposed upon our Leader. The Kurdish people will always take to the streets until we get results."

Politician Musa Farisioğulları said that the PKK was founded under the leadership of  young people, and added: “Young people are the foundation of a building, they are the ones who will pave the way for us. We do not and will not accept capitalist life. We will always continue on our way based on our own culture and the thoughts of our Leader. Unless our Leader is free, the Kurdish people will not be free either, and that is why we will always fight for our Leader's freedom in the streets and wherever we are.”

Hêvî Aydoğmuş from TCŞ, who read the statement in German, pointed out that the Kurdish people are going through a difficult process and said: “As Mazlum Doğan said, to resist is to live. The only condition for overcoming this difficult process is to hear from our Leader and free him. We, the Kurdish young people, will not stop until we liberate our Leader, our people and our country.”

Activists called for participation in the central march to be held in Lausanne on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne on Saturday 22 July.
