Police attacked people celebrating Newroz with tear gas, water and real bullets in Viranþehir (Urfa). At least one people has been taken into custody. The crowd, including Diyarbakýr MP Leyla Zana, is waiting to enter the square.

Thousands of people clash with police in Batman where the police barricades were removed by demonstrators. Despite Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chairs Aysel Tuðluk and Ahmet Türk’s efforts, the police attacked the demonstrators with tear gas. The clashes continue at the entrance of the Newroz square. Türk was taken to hospital.

The police also attacked demonstrators in Van, Cizre, Silopi, Ýdil and Hatay.

In Nusaybin (Mardin) about 30 thousand demonstrators have been able to pass the police barricades and enter the celebration square.
