As many as 18.704 members of Turkish security forces have been stationed in the city of Amed (Diyarbakır) as people go to the polls today for local elections. Of these, 10.364 are gendarmeries and 8.340 are police.
The police forces that remained deployed outside the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) office in Amed since 20 November 2018, have been retreated today.
HDP administrators commented on the withdrawal of the police as; “For the police, it is more important to blockade the polls today.”
