Three-year-old child Mustafa Atlý died in hospital after the tent were he was living went on fire today in the Ilýkaynak Village of the Erçek District in Van Province. The mother of the little boy, Saliha Atlý, tried to save her son but could not succeed. She is in hospital for medical treatment.
The province of Van was hit by earthquakes on Oct. 23 and Nov. 9. The two quakes had magnitudes of 7.2 and 5.6, respectively, killed 644 people and left thousands of others homeless.
Many tents went on fire in Van since the earthquake. Eleven people, mostly children have burnt to death in 127 accidents since the earthquake.
Thousands of quake victims are taking shelter in tents that are not suitable for the extremely cold winter conditions in Van.
