Around 30 thousand people who fled from Kobanê last year and are now waiting to return home are suffering hardship in Suruç. Aid has slowed to a trickle and depots are rapidly emptying. Officials say there is an urgent need for baby food and nappies.
Following the liberation of Kobanê by YPG and YPJ forces after a historic resistance, 70 thousand people have returned home, while 30 thousand others are awaiting reconstruction to be completed.
Starî Balî, who is in charge of the aid depots, said there is an urgent need for aid to provide for the remaining displaced people.
'During election campaigning displaced people have been forgotten’
Bali said that while there had previously been 7 tent cities in Suruç, there were now only 3, adding that aid was not arriving as it had in the past. He said reproachfully that people had forgotten the displaced of Kobanê on account of the approaching general election.
Balî called on Kurds living in North Kurdistan, Europe and Turkey to mobilise in support of the people from Kobanê living in Suruç.
