The operation launched to clear Raqqa of ISIS gangs and liberate the oppressed people continues. Freedom forces have surrounded the city from two main branches and are advancing from the peripheral neighborhoods towards the city center.
Freedom fighters advancing towards Raqqa center are mostly Arabs and Kurds, while fighters from other peoples living in Northern Syria also take part in the operation. Their ethnicities may be different, but their goal is the same: The freedom of the people of Raqqa.
Two of the fighters, Ferhat and Osman spoke to ANF on the war in the Raqqa city and what the freedom operation means.
“WE WILL LIBERATE THE PEOPLE”
Osman is of Arab origin. He said he was glad to be in Raqqa and added:
“We are in the neighborhoods we liberated in Raqqa right now. ISIS gangs have done so much evil on these lands. They oppressed the peoples who live here. Now we will liberate their greatest fortress, their capital, and we will save the people in there.”
“ISIS CAN’T STOP US”
Ferhat on the same frontline is of Kurdish origin. He grew up in an Arab majority area, so he expresses himself better in Arabic, and said the following:
“We are now in the peripheral neighborhoods of Raqqa. Our friends are on the fronts further out. ISIS gangs are trying to resist, as this is the last position they hold, the last city. They are trying to stop us with landmines and bomb-laden vehicles but these don’t affect our advance. We will continue in determination.”
