In a press conference at the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch about recent political developments, Kurdish artists of Mesopotamia Cultural Center (MKM) stated that they would continue to “stand by the resistance against massacres and against the dirty war which has brought pain, blood and tears to people”.
Reading the statement on behalf of Kurdish artists, Ali Geçimli reminded of the Roboski massacre and the fact that the responsible have still not been taken to court. Geçimli said the followings; “The AKP government, Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and the mainstream media reported the event as “an accident” to conceal the massacre. However, despite all efforts to cover up the event, thinking perhaps that the mistake could be forgiven, it didn’t take long for the truth to emerge.”
Geçimli continued calling attention to the so-called “KCK” (Kurdish Communities Union) operations and added that; “The pressure on the BDP, which is the main interlocutor in the Kurdish question, in the process of drafting a new constitution that only pretends to find a constitutional solution to the Kurdish problem, in reality indicates the intention to suppress the Kurdish movement and to turn Turkey into an open prison.”
Referring to the pressure on RojTV, Geçimli said that; “The pressures for the closure of RojTV, the only channel that speak about the problems of the Kurdish people and makes the voice of Kurds heard in the world, aims to conceal injustices and massacres".
Geçimli expressed their demand as follows; “We demand the trial of the responsible for the Roboski massacre, the end of so-called “KCK” detentions and arrests, the release of all political prisoners, journalists, intellectuals, the end of suspicious soldier deaths and the discovery of Hrant Dink’s murderers.”
The press conference was attended by representatives of BDP Istanbul Provincial Organization, Istanbul Kurdish Institute and Med Culture Center.
