Yusra Darwish, co-president of the Qamishlo canton in northern and eastern Syria, was killed last Tuesday, June 20, when the Turkish state shelled her vehicle near the town of Beyundar, on the Qamishlo-Tirebespi highway. Leyman Shiweish, the deputy co-chair who was also in the vehicle, was killed too, as was Farat Touma. The canton co-chair, Kabi Shamoun, was injured.

Various associations, unions and groups in the Spanish state condemn Turkish attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria and Turkish continuous targeting of women.

The statement underlined that "the victims had a long history of peaceful struggle to establish a democratic, ecological system that respected the freedoms of their peoples. Both women have worked tirelessly for social change and organizing social, community and political activities in Qamishlo canton since the beginning of the revolution. The Turkish state continues to attack politically active women and men who are at the forefront of democracy and in search of peace in the Middle East."

The statement continued: "We ask governments and international institutions to show their opposition to these policies and take effective measures to stop them. Whoever remains silent in the face of the war of aggression and occupation of the Erdogan government will be an accomplice in the devastating situation in which the 4 parts of Kurdistan find themselves."
