The number of people taken into custody this morning is rising by the hour. So far as a result of searches in at least 123 addresses, at least 33 people have been detained. Some reports puts the number to 40.
Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair and Van Deputy Aysel Tuðluk strongly reacted against the latest wave of arrests.
Diyarbakýr Mayor Osman Baydemir, trade union confederations and many NGO issued press releases to condemn the arrests of mostly Kurdish politicians.
Tuðluk called on Kurdish people and democrats to react strongly and united. “Everyone who is living for her/his honor, identity and social existence became a target for the ruling AKP government. Kurds by now have nothing to lose. This latest police operation has targeted the whole of the Kurdish struggle. It aims to debarred Kurds from their realm of freedom established by continuing repression and harassment,” said Tuðluk who considered the operations as a war message from the authority to Kurdish people.
“The message is that Erdoðan will continue to fight against Kurds. They are either killing or arresting Kurdish people. There is no option left for Kurds. Erdoðan is the century’s devil for us, not different from the dictators who tortured Kurds a thousand year ago. The Kurdish struggle is a growing fire and they fear it. These operations are signs of fear and fascism”, added Tuðluk.
Diyarbakýr Mayor Osman Baydemir said that the AKP government is nothing short from the regime of the coup’ d’etat.
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaþ said the raids and arrest are not based on any legal legitimacy and "are immoral attacks against Kurds". Demirtaþ invited Kurdish people to protect the BDP buildings.
“People will hold those responsible to account for these tortures and suppression” added Demirtaþ.
The Confederation of Revolutionary Workers’ Trade Unions (DÝSK) executives condemned the police raid in the Central Building of the Confederation of Civil Servants’ Trade Unions (KESK) in Ankara.
Many NGOs and trade unions in Ankara, Istanbul, Manisa and Þýrnak held protest demonstrations and press conferences to condemn the wave of arrests in the context of the Union of Kurdistan Communities (KCK) case.
According to reports coming through BDP Assembly Member Gülistan Balkaþ was taken into custody in Mersin.
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) vice-chair of party group in parliament, Mustafa Elitaþ threatened Kurdish people and said that “we'll do whatever it takes”.
