Attack on the Iranian Parliament and Khomeini’s tomb

At least 8 people were killed and several others were wounded in simultaneous attacks on the Iranian parliament and former Iranian leader Khomeini’s tomb. Clashes continue in the parliament building.

3 people entered and attacked the parliament building earlier today in Iran’s capital Tehran, and a separate person exploded himself in Iranian revolution’s leader Ayatollah Khomeini’s tomb.

Reports say 3 armed people, 2 with Kalashnikovs and the other with a pistol, attacked the Iranian parliament between 09.0 and 09.30 a.m. Iranian news agencies announced that one security personnel lost his life and many others were wounded.

There are claims that the attackers entered the parliament during the open public hours and took several hostages. Entry to and exit from the parliament building has been barred, while Iranian regime forces carry out an operation in the building.

Tehran MP Ilyas Hezreti spoke to the Iranian media and said that two of the attackers had Kalashnikovs and the other had a pistol.

Meanwhile, at about 10.10 a.m., one attacker was seen exiting the parliament building and opening fire on the Iranian forces around the building. The number of casualties is not certain but there are several wounded people reported.

Simultaneously with the parliament building, Iranian islamic revolution’s leader Ayatollah Khomeini’s tomb was attacked. According to Iranian agencies and the state television, a suicide attack was carried out at Khomeini’s grave.

One person is reported dead and another wounded in the attack on Khomeini’s grave. Meanwhile, a woman in the region was detained under suspicion that she could be a suicide bomber.

The Persian News Agency claimed there were 3 attackers in Khomeini’s grave, 2 were caught but the 3rd exploded himself. The agency announced the number of wounded people as 2.

Clashes continue in the parliament building, and at least 8 people are reported to have lost their lives and over 15 others have been wounded in the twin attacks.
