AvEG-Kon to go on solidarity hunger strike in Cologne

“The demand of Leyla Güven and other activists for the end of the isolation is a social demand and concerns all of us. Isolation is a crime against humanity and should be removed immediately”, said AvEG-Kon.

The European Confederation of Oppressed Immigrants (AvEG-Kon) will launch a 5-day hunger strike in the German city of Cologne on April 1st to protest against the AKP fascism, the isolation of Öcalan and the silence of international institutions.

A press statement will be held at “Heumarkt, 50667 Cologne” at 12:00 on April 1st regarding the hunger strike action.

The AvEG-Kon statement, which called on everyone to act against fascism, is as follows;

“The hunger strike launched by Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari deputy and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chairperson Leyla Güven on 7 November 2018 with the demand of an end to the isolation on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, is leaving its 143rd day behind.

While Nasır Yağız’s in Hewler has reached the 130th day, the Kurdish activists in Strasbourg has left 104 days behind as hunger strike actions continue in various parts of the world.

The hunger strike actions started by 330 prisoners in Turkish prisons against the fascist Erdoğan/AKP dictatorship’s isolation of Mr. Öcalan, rights violations in prisons and repression on the society, has completed its 105th day. On the other hand, more than 5 thousand prisoners who joined the hunger strike resistance on March 1st, have left their first month of indefinite hunger strike behind.

Health of the hunger strike activists, of Leyla Güven in the first place, is quickly deteriorating. We are concerned over further losses of life in the hunger strikes which has already cost the lives of 4 prisoners and of Uğur ŞAkar in Germany.

The demand of Leyla Güven and other activists for the end of the isolation is a social demand and concerns all of us. Isolation is a crime against humanity and should be removed immediately.

We as AvEG-Kon are going on a hunger strike for 5 days, starting on April 1st, to protest against the fascist Erdoğan/AKP dictatorship’s continued atrocities against our peoples, the isolation of Öcalan, rights violations against prisoners, and the silence of the CPT, the European commission, the United Nations and other institutions and of the silence of the European states.

We call on press members, democratic public and every person that stands against fascism to attend our conference about our hunger strike action and demands.”
