Basel and Vienna against isolation

A protest against the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and in solidarity with the hunger strikes took place in Basel and Vienna.

Demonsrations against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan continue all around the world.

In Basel Kurdish activists and their friends demonstrated in solidarity with hunger strikers in Strasbourg, Hewlêr, Europe, Canada, Kurdistan and Turkey. The hunger strike resistance is led by DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven.

The action in Basel was organized by the Solidarity with Hunger Strikes Platform and was held in Claraplatz.

Activists chanted slogans such as ‘Leyla Güven is our honor’ and ‘The demand of hunger strikers is our demand’.

In the speeches delivered in German it was emphasized that the hunger strike resistance had reached a critical stage and the hunger strikers were on the verge of death.

The European institutions, and in particular the CPT, were urged to fulfill their responsibilities and activists protested their silence despite the demand of the hunger strikers being a legitimate demand.

Demonstration in Vienna

In Vienna an action was organised to protest the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and to support the ongoing hunger strike resistance.

Meeting at the Hochburg Square, Kurdish activists and their friends carried photographs of Abdullah Öcalan, Leyla Güven and the other hunger strikers.
