Baydemir replied to Prime Minister on budget

Diyarbakýr Metropolitan Mayor Osman Baydemir replied to Prime Minister Erdogan's criticism that Hakkari doesn’t give service to people despite having a budget of 20 million TL. Baydemir reminded that the budget of Diyarbakýr is 120 million TL while Istanbul has a budget of 12 billion TL and criticized the negative discriminatory economic policies applied.

Making a speech at the opening ceremony of Karakilise Drinking Water 1st Stage, Baydemir began his words saying that he is living the excitement of keeping his promise and the dignity of not feeling embarrassment. Baydemir thanked all DISKI (Diyarbakýr Water and Sewerage Administration) and said; “Our target, goal and movement is a dignified life for our people.”

Baydemir said: “We have expanded the drinking water network, which was 362 kilometres in 1999, to 1590 kilometers in 10 years time. The same working has also been performed in the service of sewerage infrastructure; it has been expanded from 109 to 700 kilometers. You have ears but you don’t hear, you have a tongue but it doesn’t tell the truth. Water is faith, peace and unity.”

Following Baydemir’s speech, Yeniþehir Mayor M. Selim Kurbanoglu noted that they have come a long way in 10 years and thanked DISKI for the works it has performed.

26 percent of investments on in rural districts

DISKI General Manager Fahrettin Cagdaþ expressed that clean drinking water has been declared as a "basic human right" while hundreds of millions of people had obtained in difficulty or could never reach it. Cagdas said; “Aware of the sacredness of bring water to our people, we are living the dignity of doing our task fast and completely. The investments of DISKI is about 27.5 million TL, 26 percent of which is constituted by the investments on rural neighborhoods. In 16 allocation units in total, 6 thousand 300 people from 856 houses have reached clean, continuous and cheap water.”
