Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Batman city council members released a statement and criticized Batman mayor Serdar Atalay for not fulfilling the promises he made before the elections four years ago.
The statement at BDP Office was read by City Council Member Ýrfan Yýldýrým who said that “Many major problems of the city still remain unsolved for the last four years. We demand Mr. Atalay to keep the promises he gave as a candidate for years ago and to fulfill his responsibilities for the people.”
Yýldýrým also called on Mayor Atalay to inform the public about the suspended projects such as TOKI buildings and asked Atalay on which reasons he grounded the dismissal of 222 workers of the municipality. Yýldýrým continued as follows;
“These people whom you had employed before the elections with an aim to receive more votes have been dismissed from their jobs in an unjust way. We have difficulty in understanding how you can ever play with the feelings and futures of these people.”
Pointing out to the current serious problems in the city because of heavy winter conditions, Yýldýrým also criticized Atalay for the failure in municipality works for winter season when people suffered serious problems, in traffic in particular.
Yýldýrým underlined that never before had so many people been unjustly dismissed from their works, adding the followings; “On the other hand, we also question your mentality in giving punishment-like duties to workers in accordance with their political stances. We will no wonder object to this attitude as long as you continue to punish people because of their thought and ideologies. We hope the problems can be solved and you fulfill the necessities of your duty.”
