BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) and Labour, Democracy and Freedom Bloc deputies will stage a two-days hunger strike beginning on 20 February 20. The action has been decided in support to jailed deputy Selma Irmak.
Irmak has announced on 15 February to have begun an indefinite hunger strike to protest against the capture and isolation of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan. The deputies hunger strike will take place in the BDP head office in Ankara.
BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaþ repeated once more the importance of dealing with the situation of Abdullah Öcalan. "The government should take brave steps about Ýmralý if it is genuinely seeking a solution to the many problems of this country. The policy the government will follow on Ýmralý will determine whether the other problems will be solved or deepen" said Demirtaþ.
