Berceto (province of Parma) is the tenth Italian council to make Ocalan honorary citizen.

Together with the mayor and the City Council was also one of the lawyer of Ocalan, Newroz Uysal. It was her who received the key of the city. 

As well as to Ocalan and the Kurdish people, the honourary citizen was given to the Lakota people.

In his speech, the mayor said: "We want to encourage each and everyone of us to believe that ideals are still important, that the feelings of empathy towards those who suffer because they have no freedom, are useful and necessary. They are just."
