The new Parliament will see an higher number of women deputies than the previous one. In 2007 the women deputies were 50. Yesterday's results show that this time 78 women will enter parliament.
The ruling AKP (Justice and Development Party) has elected 45 women deputies, the main opposition party, CHP (Republican's People Party) 19, the nationalist MHP (National People Party) 3.
Emek Özgürlük ve Demokrasi Bloku (the Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block) will send 11 women to parliament. The Block women deputies are: Sebahat Tuncel, Pervin Buldan, Aysel Tuðluk, Leyla Zana, Nursel Aydoðan, Emine Ayna, Mülkiye Birtane, Ayla Akat Ata, Gültan Kýþanak, Selma Irmak, Gülseren Yýldýrým.
