According to figures from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, in the last 24 hours the country confirmed 1,473 deaths. In relation to infections, Brazil added 30,925 new cases to the already registered 614,941.
The South American country is the second country most affected by the pandemic, when it comes to number of infected people, only behind the United States.
The states which registered the higher numbers of deaths are Sao Paulo (8,276), also the richest and most populous, and Rio de Janeiro (6,010).
However, those with the highest death rates per million inhabitants are the states of the north and northeast, such as Amazonas and Ceará, whose health systems are on the verge of collapse.
Expert said that the real numbers are probably much higher.
Despite the high numbers of cases and deaths, several regional and municipal governments of Brazil launched processes to de-escalate the quarantine measures this week.
The easing is criticized by specialists and scientists, who consider that the country is still far from the peak of the contagion curve, which is scheduled for July.
Right wing President Jair Bolsonaro is openly at odds with several governors over the quarantine measures, which he considers an economic ruin for the country.
