Campaign for bilingualism continues despite the odds

Kurdish people continue to support the campaign for bilingualism in the region despite the many obstacles.

Poet Muhsin Avare, member of the Writers Union of Federative Kurdistan Region, said that the Kurdish People have right to speak, write and develop their mother tongue like any nations need.

Shopkeepers in Idil and Silopi districts of Þýrnak did not open their shutters yesterday to protest all prohibition on Kurdish Language and to show their support to the 153 Kurdish politicians and defendants who will be appearing in court today for the second hearing of the historical trial in Diyarbakýr.

Amnesty International (AI) recognized Kurdish language and will began to use Kurdish language on its website. AI signed a protocol with KURDÝ-DER Batman branch in order to translate all written document into Kurdish for one year.

Besides those supports, Þýrnak Public Prosecutor refused Kurdish statement of Leyla Birlik, Chair of Þýrnak General Provincial Council. Leyla Birlik had to leave the prosecutor-ship without giving statement. She was going to interrogate for a protest meeting on December 13 in Þýrnak.
