Casualties reported in provocation in Amed

Following an armed attack that targeted the president of the İHYA-DER, known with close ties with the radical Islamist Hüda-Par (Free Cause Party), supporters of the party opened fire on workplaces in Şehitlik town where the incident took place.

Following an armed attack by unidentified assailants that targeted the president of the Scholarship Service Aid and Survey Association (İlim Hizmet Yardımlaşma ve Araştırma Derneği -Yeni İHYA-DER), known with close ties with the radical Islamist Hür Dava (Free Cause) Party, Hüda-Par, supporters of the party opened fire on a number of workplaces in Şehitlik town in Yenişehir district where the incident took place.

According to initial reports, 3 people have been wounded in the attack, including one critically, while the association president Aytaç Baran has died at hospital.

Two reporters of DHA (Doğan News Agency), Canan Altıntaş and Serdar Sunar, and one other from İHA (İhlas News Agency), Burak Emek, were also assaulted by the armed group and taken to Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital, from which Canan Altıntaş was referred to Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital for being in a critical condition.

Among the Hüda-Par supporters that came to the Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital where Baran died, one group opened random fire around at the emergency department of the hospital. Police teams have been sent to the scene while tension continues in and around the hospital.

In the meantime, the three people wounded as a result of the attack on workplaces in Şehitlik neighborhood have been taken under treatment.

HDP: They want to make our people confront each other

In a written statement about the armed attack, HDP Co-presidents Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ called for light to be shed on the shady incident and warned against tendencies and attempts to make the people confront each other. HDP Co-presidents offered condolences to the family of the association president Aytaç Baran.
