CDU issues Newroz message

The CDU party in power in Federal Germany issued a message to celebrate the Newroz Holiday of the Kurds living in Germany and emphasized that Kurds' struggle against radical gang groups receives appreciation world-wide.

Federal General Deputy President Julia Kloeckner issued a video message for Newroz on behalf of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) led by Angela Merkel.

Julia Kloeckner began her message by congratulating the Newroz Holiday of Kurdish people living in Germany, and emphasized the special meaning of Kurds to live their traditions.

Kloeckner recalled that more than a million Kurds live in Germany, and said “It is an important sign to us German politicians for Kurds to be able to celebrate their holiday.”

Kloeckner recalled that Newroz celebrations had been banned for the Kurds in Turkey until recently, and said “We are here in Germany, a free and open country. Freedom is the ability of others to do what is important for them.”

Julia Kloeckner referred to Kurds' struggle against ISIS and other radical gang groups in the Middle East, and said “We appreciate you” as she addressed young Kurdish women and men.

Kloeckner said that they know of Kurds' struggle for democracy, and expressed her wish that Kurdish people celebrate Newroz Holiday enthusiastically.
