Ceylanpınar will try to get the stolen municipality back.
The people of Kurdistan and Turkey, will go to the polls to vote in the local elections.
In the local elections in 2014, the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), because of the result of tricks by the reactionary block of AKP-MHP, lost some of its district municipalities.
One of these municipalities was the Ceylanpınar district municipality of Urfa.
Despite the victory by the DBP, the AKP police terrorized the district and the elections were canceled. The district of Ceylanpinar was strategic to allow mercenaries from ISIS and al-Nusra front to cross from Ceylanpinar to Rojava and Serêkaniyê and therefore the AKP could not leave the municipality in the hands of the DBP.
Heavy military presence
According to local sources in the district, there is a military deployment going on since yesterday, 30 March. Thousands of Special Operations Police and military personnel were deployed to the district, mostly in schools.
The deployment of thousands of police and soldiers to the district, which has a population of 82 thousand people, shows the will of the government to create a precise atmosphere for the elections.
