A festival was organized for children in Kandil Balayen region of South Kurdistan. The festival was given the names of children Solin and Sonya who with their families lost their lives in a bombardment of Turkish warplanes in Kortek in 2011.
The festival which was organized by Kandil Women’s Center and Group for Children in the village of Balayan Kalatê started with one minute's silence for children who lost their lives in wars and military attacks. As well as speeches by members of Kandil Women’s Center and Group for Children, messages of Kandil Navdeþti children were read during the festival.
The festival hall was covered with the photographs of children who died in wars.
Anti-war drawings by children in Kandil were exhibited during the festival which was joined by children and teachers from the villages of Dilmen, Wesanê, Rezokê, Mewnan, Çomsek and Sernelê. Among the drawings which handled villages and living areas targeted by bombardments, the most intense interests was shown in the picture of the seven-membered family who was killed by a bombardment in the area of Kortek on 21 August 2011.
The festival ended after the poem, folk dances, music and theatre performances by children.
